The short version. What you type into the calculator stays in your browser unless you choose to share it in a link or email it to us. It is not automatically uploaded anywhere, we run no analytics, set no cookies, and the page makes no request to any other company. Information reaches us in only two ways, each described below: the standard logs every web host keeps, and an email you choose to send us.
Calculator entries are not automatically uploaded. There are no accounts, no sign-in, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising or tracking pixels, and no third-party scripts. The page is prevented from making outbound requests by a Content Security Policy sent with every response, which sets connect-src 'none'. That is enforced by your browser, not promised by us.
Information can still reach us in exactly two ways:
If you change something, the page saves your entries in your own browser's local storage so they are still there next time. This stays on your device. It is never sent anywhere.
The keys used all begin hearthfacts.: hearthfacts.v1, hearthfacts.v1.ov, hearthfacts.saved, hearthfacts.theme and hearthfacts.notice.
If you look without typing anything, nothing is stored at all.
The page has a Clear my saved figures button. It removes every key beginning hearthfacts., empties the address bar of any shared figures, and leaves anything other sites have stored on your device untouched. Clearing your browser's storage does the same thing.
Entries remain until you clear them. Nothing expires on its own.
If you create a share link, the information you chose is placed inside the link itself, after the #. Because browsers do not send that part of an address to a server, those figures never reach us or our host, even when someone opens the link.
Anyone holding the link can read it. The default button shares only the property and the loan. A second button shares your personal details as well, and tells you exactly what those are before you press it, including a VA disability rating if you entered one. Think before sending the second kind.
The email and enquiry buttons open your own email program with a message already written. Nothing is sent until you press send, and you can edit it first.
The enquiry reaches us before you pay anything. By default it contains a link to the property and the loan only. It adds the details needed to check a veteran exemption, meaning military service, any VA disability rating and the exemption clause, only if you check the box that says so. It never includes your credit range, household or commute, which an exemption check does not need.
The site is served by a static web host. Like any web server, it records standard request logs, which typically include IP address, time and page requested. We do not combine those with anything else, and your entered figures are not in them.
What you send is reviewed only to respond to your request and, if you buy a check, to prepare it. Our email, payment and hosting providers process it only to provide those services. Ask us to delete it sooner at support@hearthfacts.com and we will delete what the law allows us to.
Property Cost Checks are arranged by email for now; nothing is paid through this site. If you arrange one, payment is taken by Stripe, and your card details go to Stripe, never to us.
This site is intended for adults making housing decisions. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and the GDPR give people rights to access, correct, delete or port their personal information, and to know whether it is sold or shared.
The figures in the calculator are on your device under your control. For anything we hold, ask at support@hearthfacts.com and we will tell you what we hold and delete what the law allows. We do not sell or share personal information.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If we ever begin collecting something new, we will say so on the page itself and not only here.
